Year 3 - Emerald

Welcome to Emerald Class!

Welcome to Year 3

Teacher: Miss Richardson

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Middleton

Pupils: Lovely bunch

This term our topic is
Heroes and Villains

Martin Luther, Joan of Arc, Rosa Parks or Amy Johnson? Someone from your family or the local firefighters? There are many heroes and heroines, but who do you admire the most? Learn and sing songs about the infamous villains, Bonnie and Clyde and Cruella de Vil. Write a riddle, a comic strip and change a traditional tale, develop dialogue and character and a biographical article. How does it feel to do good and bad things? Which feels best and why? Can you do a good deed that changes the world? Then let’s work together to write a really good rap to remember history’s greats. There are lots to include. Perform to an audience and teach them the words so that they can all rap along. Perhaps we can be heroes, just for one day?

This term we will be writing biographies, dialogue, riddles, fairy tales; and comic strips. We have written in some of these forms before, so we will be using our drafting skills to advance our writing onto a Year 3 level. As a class, we have been working hard to include complex vocabulary, conjunctions, openers and more advanced punctuation to elevate our writing. We'll be sending home our assessment checklist to give you an idea of what we aim to include in our writing at school.

Over the term, we will be covering; place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to strengthen our mathematical knowledge. We will be learning new methods and recapping previous learning to build on these topics and deepen our understanding to apply them at a Year 3 standard. If you want to practice any of these topics at home, you can find related Maths games on BBC Bitesize as well as TimeTable Rockstars.

P.E is on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Please come to school dressed in your P.E kit. You will need your green DGFS top, black or blue shorts and plimsolls/trainers. Please leave a bottle of sun cream in your child's bag for days when it is very hot as PE will be taught outside.

Homework will continue to be submitted online using your Eschool login. If you need a reminder about your password please email the class or office email. Our homework grid is attached to the bottom of the class page where you can choose a weekly task to complete. Homework is to be uploaded before Friday each week and will be marked online the following week. If you have problems uploading onto your Eschools account please send photos of your homework to the class email.

In school we read daily, as a class during guided reading, and when reading our individual reading books to an adult. To help your child's reading progression please read at home for an additional 10- 15 minutes. Please date, sign and comment on your child's reading in their reading record. To improve comprehension please ask your child questions about what they have read. You can enjoy books from here too:

Spelling and Cracking Times Tables

Spellings are also on our class page below. Please practice your spellings for tests on Wednesdays. Words come from the national curriculum for Year 3. We appreciate children will have different confidence levels, so please access the earlier spellings also attached below. Children will now complete their spelling tests on a separate piece of paper to take home so you can see their progress. Spellings will be marked as soon as possible and sent home, thank you for being involved with your child's phonetic progress.

Cracking Timetable tests take place every Wednesday. So, make sure to use the TT Rock Star app at home to practice!

Scheduled days are subject to change as new routines are established at the beginning of the year. Thank you in advance for your flexibility.

Thank you for your support at home and in school. Any questions or concerns please call or email the school office/class email and I will get back to you as quickly as possible.
