Welcome to Emerald Class!
Welcome to Year 3
Teacher: Miss Richardson
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Middleton
Pupils: Lovely bunch
It’s time to take a walk on the wild side in our new project Predators. Find out who’s coming to visit. Is it a bug munching lizard or an eagle-eyed bird of prey? Whatever it is, do you think you can handle it? Learn about creepy crocs and amazing alligators, the deadly assassin bug and the voracious Venus flytrap. Be inspired to write an informative leaflet all about your favourite predator and compose a poem about a predator or its prey. Then use what you know about the best of the beasts to create the ultimate predator; the apex of the food chain. Cross your dad with a peregrine falcon or your nan with a great white shark. What incredible species can you imagine? Feeling peckish? Let’s jump aboard the food chain.
This term we will be writing recounts, speeches and dilemma stories. We have written in some of these forms before, so we will be using our drafting skills to advance our writing onto a Year 3 level. As a class, we have been working hard to include complex vocabulary, conjunctions, openers and more advanced punctuation to elevate our writing. We have previously emailed home our assessment checklist to give you an idea of what we aim to include in our writing at school, please let us know if you need another copy.
Over the term, we will be covering; fractions, money and shape and space to strengthen our mathematical knowledge. We will be learning new methods and recapping previous learning to build on these topics and deepen our understanding to apply them at a Year 3 standard. If you want to practice any of these topics at home, you can find related Maths games on BBC Bitesize as well as TimeTable Rockstars.
P.E is on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Please come to school dressed in your P.E kit. You will need your green DGFS top, black or blue shorts and plimsolls/trainers. Please leave a bottle of sun cream in your child's bag for days when it is very hot as PE will be taught outside.
Please hand in homework on a Friday for it to be marked and returned on Monday. Our homework grid is attached to the bottom of the class page where you can choose a weekly task to complete. Homework is now completed in the homework books and new grids are sent home at the end of each term. Please let us know if you need a printed copy.
We complete reading through class guided reading, and when reading our individual reading books to an adult. To help your child's reading progression please read at home for an additional 10- 15 minutes. Please date, sign and comment on your child's reading in their reading record. To improve comprehension please ask your child questions about what they have read. You can enjoy books from here too:
Spelling and Cracking Times Tables
Spellings are also on our class page below. Please practice your spellings for tests on Thursdays. Words come from the national curriculum for Year 3. Children will now complete their spelling tests on a separate piece of paper to take home so you can see their progress. Spellings will be marked as soon as possible and sent home, thank you for being involved with your child's phonetic progress.
Cracking Timetable tests take place every Thursday. So, make sure to use the TT Rock Star app at home to practice!
Thank you for your support at home and in school. Any questions or concerns please call or email the school office/class email and I will get back to you as quickly as possible.
