Year 4

Welcome to Year Four!

Teacher: Mrs Barry

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Gatehouse

I hope you had a wonderful half term and were able to enjoy family time!

Here are some of the things we will be learning in Summer 2.

Topic

Our topic this term is Playlists. During this topic we will be learning about sounds and music as well as the instruments that make particular sounds. We will begin our topic by listening to a variety of musical instruments and orchestras and completing a sound walk around the school. The children will also be rehearsing for the end of year production using drama and music as well as practicing lines.

Literacy

This term we will be listening to a variety of poems using sound as well as creating some of our own. We will also be completing recounts on trips we will be taking as well as writing our own lyrics and music.  As a class, we will be working hard to include complex vocabulary, conjunctions, openers and more advanced punctuation to elevate our writing.

Maths

Over the term, we will be covering; multiplication, division, time, perimeter and weight to solidify our mathematical knowledge. We will be learning new methods and recapping previous learning to build on these topics and deepen our understanding to apply them at a Year 4 standard. If you want to practice any of these topics at home, you can find related Maths games on BBC Bitesize as well as TimeTable Rockstars.

P.E.

P.E is on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Please come to school dressed in your P.E kit. You will need your green DGFS top, black or blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms and plimsolls/trainers. Your child can also wear the DGFS hoodie.

Homework

The children will be bringing their scripts home this week so they can practice their words and songs for the end of year production 'The Rocky Monster Show'. The children will also be completing some transition activities as they move closer to Year 5 and moving to middle schools.

Reading

In school we read daily, as a class during guided reading, and when reading our individual reading books to an adult. To help your child's reading progression please read at home for an additional 20- 30 minutes. We are also introducing reading buddies (class teddies) who will go home each week with the children to help support reading.

Spelling and Cracking Times Tables

Spellings are also on our class page below. Please practice your spellings for tests on Fridays. We appreciate children will have different confidence levels, so we have differentiated them accordingly.

Cracking Timetable tests take place every week So, make sure to use the TT Rock Star app at home to practice!
